The art of insubordination: cultivating the "good rebels" to make companies better

The term insubordination, especially in companies, evokes negative feelings and images. But for ideas to evolve and societies to progress, it is crucial to cultivate "positive" rebels who are committed to challenging the status quo and improving it. However, most would-be rebels are not listened to or have the skills to overcome an audience that is too attached to how things are.

How to promote autonomy and critical thinking instead of conformity and dependence? How to design an organizational culture in which the right ammount of nonconformism can be positively channeled, making it a lever for improvement? How to help the "rebels" to be heard?

In this meeting, participants will be able to confront Todd Kashdan, Professor of Psychology at George Mason University and author of the book "The Art of Insubordination: How to Dissent and Defy Effectively". The aim is to discuss tools, tactics and strategies that can stimulate the emergence of different and countercurrent points of view capable, if well managed, to bring new life to the company and the people who are part of it. In particular, we will talk about:

  • Principled Insubordination and the value of "rebel" thinking in the company
  • obstacles to the sharing of ideas (apprehension, habit, misunderstanding) and how to overcome them
  • Mercedes, Walmart and other success stories.
