Deep Utopia: how will AI change the humankind

In recent years, AI has grown exponentially, reaching a level of development that until a few years ago was hardly imaginable to non-experts. Alongside the enthusiasm for progress, however, a lively debate has quickly emerged about the risks, even "existential" risks, that it could pose to humanity. If we are aware of terms such as "superintelligence" and "existential risk" connected to the world of AI, we owe it mainly to Nick Bostrom, the most studied and influential thinker in the hi-tech circles of the Silicon Valley.

After warning us about the risks associated with AI development, Bostrom now invites us to reflect on a scenario that is not only positive but even revolutionary. What could happen if we were actually able to develop AI ethically? What scenarios would open up if we could democratize such a tool and put it at the service of humanity? And, in such a scenario, how would the very concept of human life change?

To reflect on these and other topics, participants will have the opportunity to engage in dialogue with Nick Bostrom, Professor of Philosophy and Director of the Future of Humanity Institute, as well as one of the most relevant thinkers of our time. In particular, the following points will be addressed from his newly released book "Deep Utopia: Life and Meaning in a Solved World":

  • is humanity truly entering a new era?
  • practical and concrete implications in everyday work and life
  • creative destruction and utopia.
